Megan Hingston posted a 10 point - 10 rebound double-double to lead the Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team to a 51-41 victory over Saint Martin's University tonight in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both schools in Lacey.
The Crusaders (5-2, 1-0 GNAC) overcame a 30.2-percent (19-63) shooting night from the field by out-rebounding the Saints 50 to 35, including 20 on the offense end.
Hingston led a balanced effort for the Crusaders as all nine players scored.
Chelsie Luke scored eight and had eight rebounds, while
Kayla Schumann,
Briaunna King and
Heather Adams each added six.
Falissa Smith scored five, had nine rebounds, six assists and five steals.
The Saints (3-5, 0-1 GNAC) also shot poorly (15-48) but committed 32 turnovers and were just 11 of 18 from the free throw line. Chelsea Haskey led all scorer's for SMU with 19, but no other Saint scored more than six.
NNU will now travel to Western Oregon University and face the Wolves on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
