BOXSCORE

MONMOUTH, Ore. - Cal Poly Pomona scored the final seven points to claim a 62-55 victory over the Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team on Friday afternoon at the 2012 Phoenix Inn D2 Shootout, hosted by Western Oregon University.

Tied 55-55 with 51-seconds to play, a three-pointer by Cal Poly's J.J. Judge and two free throws by both Megan Ford and Sarah Semenero gave CPP the winning margin.

"We had our chances in the final minutes," commented NNU associate head coach Ryan McCarthy.  The Crusaders missed a jumper and committed two turnovers in their final three possessions.

Semenero led all scorer's with 20 points and nine rebounds and Ford finished with an 18 point - 10 rebound double-double.

The Crusaders (2-2) were led by Alla Dzhidzhiyeshvili with 12 points.  Megan Hingston scored 11 and both Chelsie Luke and Briaunna King added 10.  King led all players with 11 rebounds as NNU out-rebounded the Mustangs 35 to 34.

NNU trailed 31-23 at the half as CPP hit on 5 of 10 three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes and the Crusaders shot just 9 of 27 from the field.

However, the Crusaders battled back to knot the score at 36-36 with 14:25 to play after a pair of King free throws and neither team would lead by more than four until the final minute.

Cal Poly finished shooting 44.9-percent (22-49) from the floor and went 9 of 21 (42.9-percent) from the three point line.  NNU shot 39-percent (23-59) from the field but were held to just 3 of 16 (18.8-percent) shooting from the arc.

The three point line held the storyline as Cal Poly was just 9 of 18 from the free throw line, while NNU finished 6 of 7 from the stripe.

The Crusaders will look to rebound tomorrow morning when they face Cal State Los Angeles at 11 a.m.
