Crusaders debut at home with 91-64 victory over College of Idaho

NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene senior Briaunna King posted a game-high double-double of 30 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Crusaders to a 91-64 non-conference victory over The College of Idaho on Tuesday night at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.

King, who went to the locker room at the half with 25 points and 10 rebounds, finished 11 of 22 from the floor, two of three from the arc and six of eight from the free throw line.  She added three assists, one steal and one block against two turnovers to complete her stat line.

"We came out and took care of business in the first half," commented NNU head coach Kelli Lindley.  "Bri had a great first half and we are excited about only having 16 turnovers against their pressure defense."

The Crusaders improve to 2-1 overall while the Coyotes remain at 2-3, having played tonight's game as an exhibition.

Megan Hingston followed King with 17, Chelsie Luke scored 14 and Alla Dzhidzhiyeshvili had nine points and seven rebounds.  The Crusaders out-rebounded the Coyotes 40 to 34 and shot 47.8-percent (33-69) from the floor.

College of Idaho was led by Laura Geis with 17 points and 10 rebounds and both Felicity Jones and Dayna Grager reached double-figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively.  C of I finished 21 of 55 from the field (38.2-percent) and 3 of 8 from the three point line.

NNU forced 27 C of I turnovers and handed out 17 assists against 16 turnovers.  Both teams converted 19 free throws, with C of I shooting 73.1-percent (19-26) and NNU at 86.4-percent (19-22).

Tonight's win marks the fifth-straight win over the Coyotes for the Lady Crusaders and improves their all-time lead in the series to 37-4, dating back to the 1974-75 season.

The Crusaders will be back in action this weekend, traveling to Monmouth, Ore., to play in the GNAC/CCAA Classic, hosted by Western Oregon University.  NNU will face Cal Poly Pomona on Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. and Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday at Noon.
