Wolves grab final two from Crusaders

NAMPA, Idaho - The Western Oregon softball team defeated Northwest Nazarene 8-4 and 16-1 on Saturday afternoon at Halle Field in the final games of the season for the Crusaders.
 
The Crusaders scored two in the second and two in the third of the opener to lead 4-3 into the fourth inning.  Cara Duckworth's two-run single plated the runs in the second frame, while Catherine Lowery had an RBI double to right-center and Chelsey Anderson collected an RBI walk in the third.
 
Western Oregon tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth when Jessica Hallmark's ground ball fielder's choice scored Tierra-Lynn Cuba, who had singled to lead off the inning.  The Wolves then took control in the top of the seventh, scoring four runs on four hits that included two-run doubles by Bailey Rueck and Amanda Fleer.
 
Chelsey Anderson (4-17) took the loss for the Crusaders (9-38, 8-32 GNAC), while Brittany Reeves (7-3) earned the win in relief for the Wolves (32-17, 26-10 GNAC).
 
Game two was all Western Oregon as the visitors scored six runs in the first inning.  WOU added four in the second, and three in both the third and fourth innings.  WOU finished with 17 hits against three Crusader pitchers as NNU starter Dana Shipley (0-3) took the loss.
 
Lowery finished two-for-two and Dana Mitchell added a single for the Crusaders in the second game.
 
Jessica Wood (7-6) earned the win in the circle for Western Oregon.
