BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Sarah McEnroe and Erika Quint tossed shutouts leading Western Washington to a 2-0, 3-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Northwest Nazarene Friday at Viking Field.
McEnroe allowed just three hits and didn't walk a batter in the opener. She fanned four. In the nightcap, Quint hurled a two-hitter. She walked two and struck out nine.
Emily Renfrow, Cat Lowery, and Nicole Grummons each had one hit for the Crusaders (6-25, 6-19) in game one, while Sarah Varady and Arielle Chao had safties in game two.
Western Washington (15-17, 11-10) managed just 12 hits - four off of Nicole Grummons in the opener and eight against Chelsey Anderson in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Vikings scored single runs in the third and fourth. Stephanie Fox doubled, advanced on a sacrifice and scored on a fielder's choice for the first run. Krista Bickar then homered in the fourth to complete the Game 1 scoring.
Michelle Wrigley had WWU's only RBIs in the second game, singling for runs the first and fifth. The Vikings also scored in the third on a wild pitch. Wrigley was three of four on the day.
The teams complete the four-game series with another doubleheader Saturday.
