Vikings take twinbill 8-0 and 9-4 at NNU

NAMPA, Idaho - Erika Quint pitched a two-hit shutout in the opener and shortstop Caitlin Dotlich singled to drive in two runs to snap a 4-4 tie in the nightcap as Western Washington completed a four-game sweep of Northwest Nazarene with 8-0 and 9-4 victories Saturday at Halle Field in Nampa.

Quint walked one and fanned nine in the five-inning opener giving up only a pair of hits in the fourth as Kristin Refsland doubled and Chelsey Anderson singled.

Western Washington scored all its runs in two innings, getting three in the second on a wild pitch, a double by Jessica Carey and a single by Stephanie Fox before scoring five more in the third.

Rachelle Berry led off that inning with a home run. Later Kelsey Anderson singled for two runs. Carey had another RBI double and the final run scored on a bases-loaded walk to Berry.

In the second game, Catherine Lowery had a pair of ground out RBIs to stake NNU (2-6, 2-6) to a 4-3 lead, but the Vikings went ahead on the sixth netting four runs.

Meghan Flem walked with the bases loaded to drive in the tying runs before Dottlich's hit gave WWU a 6-4 lead. Jordan Emmil's fielder's choice plated another run and Samantha Rutherford singled to plate a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.

Sarah McEnroe pitched the first five innings allowing six hits to record the win. Erika Hendron earned a save with two scoreless innings of relief.

Dotlich finished with three hits in three at bats. NNU's Haley Hevern and Emily Renfro paced the Crusaders with two hits each
