TURLOCK, Calif. - The Northwest Nazarene softball team completed play at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions on Saturday evening, falling to Cal State East Bay 6-5 and to Cal State San Bernardino 6-2.
Cal State East Bay 6, Northwest Nazarene 5: Rachelle Boone had three hits, including a two-run single in the sixth as the CCAA school scored three times to break a 3-3 tie. East Bay had twice as many hits (12-6) as NNU. The Crusaders scored two of their runs on a two-run home run by Arielle Chao in the bottom of the sixth.
CSU San Bernardino 6, Northwest Nazarene 2: San Bernardino scored three runs in the sixth including two on a single by Britney Butler to break open a close game. Arielle Chao had three of NNU's six hits and scored both runs. Sarah Varady and Cortnee Crane had the RBIs.
The Crusaders will be back in action next weekend, hosting Central Washington in a pair of GNAC doubleheaders at Halle Field on Friday and Saturday.
