MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon University softball team swept the Crusaders 6-2 and 7-3 on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader in Monmouth.

Emily Renfrow and Arielle Chao led the Crusaders (4-16, 4-16 GNAC) at the plate, each going 2 for 3 in the opener.  Dana Shipley (0-1) took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs on four hits in the first inning.

In game two, the Crusaders took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth as Sarah Varady and Cat Lowery had back-to-back doubles and Nicole Gummons singled home Lowery.  However, the lead was short-lived as WOU (13-8, 11-5 GNAC) scored six in the bottom of the fourth to take control.  NNU would add one more in the top of the sixth when Grummons added another RBI single.

Grummons (2-7) took the loss for NNU, while Stephanie Albrecht (3-0) earned the win for WOU in relief of starter Brittany Reeves.

Northwest Nazarene will return to action next week when they travel to Turlock, Calif. for the Mizuno Tournament of Champions, hosted by Cal State University Stanislaus.  NNU will play three games on Friday, March 26th, and two games on Saturday, March 27th.
