NAMPA, Idaho - Saint Martin's University rebounded from the Crusaders opening day sweep to take both games on Saturday afternoon, defeating Northwest Nazarene 5-1 in both games.
NNU (2-2, 2-2 GNAC) opened the day by scoring one run in the first, but would be held scoreless by SMU starter Joslyn Eugenio (1-1) over the course of the final six innings. Haley Hevern and Catherine Lowery each finished with two hits to lead the NNU offense.
The Saints (3-6, 2-2 GNAC) were led by Eugenio (2-for-4) and Kristine Kaneshiro (2-for-4) at the plate, with Morgan Klemm hitting her first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the sixth.
Chelsey Anderson (1-1) took the loss for NNU.
The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game two, but could not hold on as the Saints rallied for two in the sixth and three in the seventh. Nicole Grummons (1-1) took the loss for NNU, while Amanda Arnzen improved to 2-3 with the win for SMU.
Emily Renfrow finished two-for-three for the Crusaders, while Klemm and Kelsie McGladrey each went three-for-four and Kristi Sigafoos was two-for-four with three RBI to pace Saint Martin's.
The Crusaders will be back in action on March 5th and 6th when they host Western Washington in a four-game GNAC series at Halle Field.
