NAMPA, Idaho - Chelsey Anderson tossed a two-hitter in the 2010 season opener and Nicole Grummons scattered six hits and allowed just one run as the Northwest Nazarene University softball team swept Saint Martin's University 5-0 and 3-1 on Friday afternoon at Halle Field on the NNU campus.
The Crusaders (2-0, 2-0 GNAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning as Haley Hevern, Anderson, Becky Louber, and Dana Mitchell all singled. Mitchell did the most damage, plating two runs with her RBI single up the middle that gave NNU starter Anderson (1-0) all the support she would need.
Renfrow and Anderson both finished two-for-three as the Crusaders finished with eight hits.
Kristine Kaneshiro and Emily Squiers each had one hit for the Saints (1-6) as Amanda Arnzen (1-3) was saddled with the loss.
SMU jump
ed out to a 1-0 lead in the first off Crusader starter Grummons (1-0), however, Grummons settled down and allowed only three hits the remainder of the game, allowing the NNU offense to take a 2-1 lead in the fifth and add an insurance run in the sixth for the 3-1 victory.
Cat Lowery finished two-for-three with two doubles, while Hevern and Arielle Chao each had RBI's.
Joslyn Eugenio (0-2) took the loss for the Saints, with six different SMU players collecting singles in the nightcap.
