NAMPA, Idaho – Beth Johnson scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball team to a 80-65 non-conference victory over Eastern Oregon University on Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Sports Center.
Johnson led a quartet of players in double figures, as Monica Garcia scored 15 and added five assists, and both Heather Adams and Chelsie Luke scored 11. Garcia, Adams, and Luke each went three-for-five from the three-point line as the Crusaders converted 11-of-23 long-range attempts.
Kyle Miller led the Mountaineers, who are ranked 24th in the latest NAIA Division II Coaches Poll, with game-high totals of 20 points and six assists. Also in double-digits for Eastern Oregon (9-1) were Shaylee Nielsen with 15 and Kelsea Hurliman with 13.
NNU's Adams joined Garcia with five assists as the Crusaders distributed 21 assists against just 13 turnovers, forcing 23 EOU turnovers with 10 steals.
Briaunna King pulled down eight rebounds and scored six to lead the Crusaders on the glass.
Both teams shot the ball well as the Crusaders (5-3) shot 48.3-percent (28-58) from the floor and 47.8-percent (11-23) from the three-point line and Eastern Oregon finished at 51.1-percent (24-47) from the field and eight-of-16 from the arc.
The Crusaders will be back in action next weekend, traveling to California to play in the GNAC/CCAA Challenge against host Cal State Los Angeles and Cal Poly Pomona.
Eastern Oregon played this afternoon's game as an exhibition game, as allowed by NAIA rules.
