MONMOUTH, Ore. - Opening Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on the road at Western Oregon University, the Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team fell 61-59 in overtime on Wednesday night in Monmouth.
Falling for the first time this season, the Crusaders (3-1, 0-1 GNAC) led for a majority of the contest and forced overtime despite shooting just 29.6-percent (24-81) from the field and 11.1-percent (2-18) from the three-point line.
Briaunna King led the Crusaders with 14 points and a game and season-high 16 rebounds and
Chelsie Luke reached double-figures with 13 points.
Rylee Peterson led Western Oregon (2-4, 1-0 GNAC) with 17 points, Sara Zahler scored 16, and Jamie Richardson added 11.
NNU out-rebounded the Wolves 50-46 and forced 29 Western Oregon turnovers. NNU had 11 steals, including a career-high six from
Beth Johnson. Johnson scored five points and had six rebounds before fouling out after 27 minutes of action.
The Wolves shot 43-percent (25-58) from the field and 20-percent (3-15) from the arc.
The Crusaders will return to non-conference action this weekend, traveling to Dixie State College of Utah to face the host Red Storm and Grand Canyon University in weekend tournament action.
