ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Four Crusaders reached double-figures as the Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball team opened the 2010-2011 season with a 78-54 victory over Dominican University at the Wildcat Classic, hosted by Central Washington University.
Able to play deep into the bench as the Crusaders led by as many as 31 with 10:47 left to play, NNU coach Ryan McCarthy was pleased with the season opening effort.
"Everyone played double-figure minutes tonight and it was nice to get everyone so many game opportunities," McCarthy commented. "It is always nice to learn -- on the court -- for the younger players, so it was a great chance to learn while winning."
King and Johnson also led the Crusaders on the glass, who out-rebounded Dominican 39-24, with six rebounds each.
NNU finished 30 of 67 (44.8-percent) from the floor, 7 of 21 (33-percent) from the three-point line, but just 11 of 18 (61.1-percent) from the free throw line.
Dominican (0-3) was led by Kelsey Janusch, who scored a game-high 18 points, and a trio of players who scored six. DU shot 42.5-percent (17-40) from the field, 42.9-percent (3-7) from the arc, and an impressive 89.5-percent (17-19) from the foul line.
The Crusaders will now face Chaminade University tomorrow afternoon in their final Wildcat Classic contest, tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. PT.
