NAMPA, Idaho - Both the Northwest Nazarene University cross country teams finished third in the team competition this afternoon as the Crusaders hosted the 2nd-annual Roger Curran Invitational at West Park in Nampa.  

Jaclyn Puga led the NNU women's team with a fifth-place individual finish, while Barak Watson paced the men's team with a fourth-place finish.  Watson posted a time of 18:57.36 in his freshman debut, while Puga clocked in at 14:44.35.  Both Crusader squads ran short-handed, as each team ran without two top runners due to the flu.

Boise State captured the men's team title with 18 points, while The College of Idaho took the women's team championship with 46 points.  BSU's Shannon Porter won the women's individual title in 14:19.20, while the Broncos Kevin Higgs was the men's medalist in 18:41.23.

In the high school races, Eagle High School won both the girls (19 pts.) and boys (20 pts.) varsity races, out distancing New Plymouth High School (51 pts.) on the girls side and Columbia High School (62 pts.) in the boys event.

NNU's Jordan Powell posted a top-10 mark as she finished seventh in 15:06.58, with Michelle Phillips right behind in 11th-place in 15:18.23.  Ashley Rendahl was 24th (16:13.38), and Christine Harwood was 28th (16:28.12) to round out the scoring members of the Crusader women's team.

On the men's side, Luke Hetrick (17th, 19:45.57) finished second for the Crusaders, with Matt Rankin (22nd, 20:01.29), Jesse Baggenstos (31st, 20:28.46), and Benard Ngeno (33rd, 20:38.72) all scoring for NNU.

Also competing for the NNU women were Danielle Beesley (32nd, 17:09.06), Meagan Swenson (34th, 17:24.04), Sam Hill (39th, 17:52.40), Ashley Morman (40th, 17:59.75),

Rounding out the men's results were Alex Crystal (39th, 21:05.71), Neil Easter (41st, 21:11.46), Kyle Gray (42nd, 21:13.58), Hank Hetrick (48th, 21:32.43), Josh Merioles (50th, 21:30.00), Joe Lovell (56th, 22:16.62), Justin Webb (59th, 22:38.61), Alex Cunningham (60th, 22:38.98), and Caleb Reynolds (64th, 23:35.40).

The Crusader harriers will be in action again next weekend when they compete in the Sundoger Invitational in Seattle.
