BOISE, Idaho - In the first game ever played at Boise State's Mountain Cove Field, the Northwest Nazarene softball team fell to BSU 11-4 in the opening game of the All-Idaho Invitational on Friday afternoon in Boise.
The Crusaders (4-8) then faced Idaho State in game two with a narrow 3-2 loss to the Bengals.
Vanessa Shaw led the Crusaders against the Broncos, going two for three at the plate, while Cat Lowery will forever hold a spot in future BSU media guides as the first collegiate player to hit a home run at Mountain Cove Field, a two-run blast in the sixth inning.
Chelsey Anderson (2-4) took the loss against the Broncos, while Cara Duckworth (2-4) fell to the Bengals.
Against ISU, the Crusaders broke a scoreless tie in the fourth, when Shaw belted a two-run home run to stake the Crusaders a 2-0 lead. However the Bengals answered in the home half of the fifth with two runs on four hits to tie it at 2-2. ISU plated the winning run in the sixth, manufacturing a run off two hits to grab the victory.
Shaw added two more hits against ISU to finish the day four for six.
NNU will face both Division I again tomorrow, facing the Broncos at 10 a.m. and the Bengals at Noon.
