Kristin Hein scored a career-high 23 points to power the Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team to a 97-53 win over the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday night in Nampa.
The conference win improves the Crusaders, who are currently ranked ninth in the NCAA West Region, to 14-8 overall and 7-4 in GNAC play. Alaska Fairbanks falls to 5-16 overall and 0-12 in league action.
Hein led the Crusaders in both scoring and rebounding with a double-double performance of 23 points and 14 rebounds, just one rebound short of her career-best.
Lindsay Brady added 18 points and seven rebounds, while
Brittney Roggenkamp scored 15 with nine rebounds. NNU point guard
Mallory Whipple scored 12 with five assists.
UAF was led by Sheena Brown with 20 points and Ronisha Edwards with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Caitlin Hamsley also reached double-figures with 11.
NNU out-rebounded the Nanooks 63-23 and held the visitors to 30.6-percent (19-62) shooting from the field. The Crusaders shot 48.8-percent (39-80) and were perfect from the foul line at eight for eight.
All nine players in uniform for the Crusaders scored, including season-bests for
Heather Craig (4) and Julianne Bazzi (5).
The Crusaders will now host nationally-ranked #1 Alaska Anchorage (24-2, 11-1 GNAC) on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Seawolves will be coming into the contest off just their second loss of the season, falling tonight at #14 Seattle Pacific, 54-42.
