Kristin Hein scored a season-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Northwest Nazarene to a 75-62 win over Saint Martin's University on Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Sports Center.
Hein matched her career-high and
Brittney Roggenkamp scored 18 as the West Region 10th-ranked Crusaders improved to 13-8 overall and 6-4 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Saints (15-8, 6-5 GNAC) were led by Dara Zack with 19, Krissy Bassett with 15, and Jamey Gelhar with 12.
Gelhar set an all-time NCAA record for consecutive free throws made in the contest, going six of six to extend her string to 72 straight. The old all-division record was previously held by Jamie Visness of Division III Concordia-Moorhead who made 69 straight in 2002 and 2003.
Gelhar hasn't missed since Dec. 18 at Hilo, Hawaii when she made six of seven, missing her first attempt. She has now made 87 of 89 this season (97.8) and is perfect (39 of 39) in conference games.
NNU out-rebounded the Saints 43-32 and committed only 12 turnovers. The Crusaders grabbed eight steals in forcing 14 SMU turnovers and held the Saints to 35.3-percent (18-51) from the floor.
The Crusaders will look to extend a run into the playoffs with a pair of home games next weekend, hosting the University of Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday and then #1-ranked University of Alaska Anchorage on Saturday.
