NAMPA, Idaho - Senior guard
Janee Olds scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball team to a 79-65 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the 2009 NNU GNAC/CCAA Classic, hosted by NNU at the Johnson Sports Center.
Olds, who was named the tournament MVP with a weekend total of 35 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists, joins teammate
Lindsay Brady on the All-Tournament team. Also named to the All-Tournament squad were Reyana Colson of Cal Poly Pomona, Katie Torland of Western Oregon, and Jameiz Terrell of Cal State LA.
The Crusaders, winners of eight-straight games, improve to 9-1 overall and will now break for Christmas and return on January 2nd to host Walla Walla University in their only non-NCAA Division II game of the season.
Olds led a trio of Crusaders in double-figures on Saturday afternoon as Brady scored 17 and
Jennifer Williams added 10. Brady finished with a game-high four assists, while Olds matched CPP's Stephisha Walton with a game-high nine rebounds.
Cal Poly Pomona (4-2, 1-1 CCAA) was led by Colson with 19 points and six rebounds. Walton scored 15 and had nine rebounds, while Megan Ford netted 13 and hustled for seven rebounds.
NNU shot 50-percent (31-62) from the floor, 92-percent (12-13) from the free throw line, and held a slim 39-38 edge on the glass. CPP shot 37-percent (26-70) from the floor and 86-percent (13-15) from the foul line.
In Saturday's opening game, Western Oregon defeated Cal State Los Angeles 69-47.
Torland led the Wolves (5-6, 0-0 GNAC) with a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds, while Terrell paced CSULA (1-6, 0-3 CCAA) with 14 points.
WOU led 39-32 at the half and held the Golden Eagles to just 15 second-half points to pull away with the victory. The Wolves out-rebounded CSULA 31-24 and were perfect from the foul line at 17 of 17.
