BOISE, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene men's and women's cross country teams each finished sixth on Saturday morning at the rain-soaked Bob Firman Invitational hosted at Eagle Island State Park in Boise. 

The event, delayed by a thunder and lightning storm this morning, was won by Boise State on the men's side and Brigham Young University on the women's.  The Crusaders scored 129 points, finishing just behind Idaho State in the men's 8-kilometer race, while the NNU women scored 152 points in the 5-kilometer event.  The teams battled through tough weather conditions, delayed by the thunderstorm in the morning and adverse weather conditions during the races.

Josh Wageman led the men's effort with a 24th-place finish (27:25.69) and Niel Easter was right behind Wageman in 27th-place (27:48.80).

Ashley Puga finished 11th to lead the women in a time of 19:06.36 and sister Jaci Puga was 29th in 19:41.43.

“I wanted to try and run a little more aggressive than I have been, so I went out with that mindset,” Ashley Puga commented on her race approach.

“We were pretty aggressive and I think we faded a little,” NNU coach Ben Gall said of both the women's and men's teams. “That was the point because later in the season we have to be aggressive.”

The Crusaders will next compete at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Oregon on October 4th.
