NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene's Rachel Bare led the Crusaders to their first victory of the season, defeating Seattle University 6-3 in the opening game of Saturday's Great Northwest Athletic Conference twinbill at Halle Field in Nampa.  The Redhawks bounced back to take the second game 10-0.

Bare (1-12) earned the win in the circle and helped her own cause with a bases-clearing double in the fourth as the Crusaders plated all six of their runs in the fourth.  Kate Free had two singles in the rally, scoring the first run and driving in the final run.

Seattle (17-2, 3-1 GNAC) scored one in the fourth and attempted a comeback in the seventh, but Bare made a diving catch and the Crusader (1-23, 1-7) defense held to earn their first win of 2008.

The Crusaders out-hit the Redhawks 11-7 in the opener and committed one error.  Shawna Juarez and Bare each went three-for-three and Jael Henthorn and Free both had two hits.

After tossing a perfect game yesterday against NNU, Erin Martin continued to impress, throwing a two-hitter at the Crusaders in the second game to improve her record to 10-0.  Bare took the loss as the Redhawks scored in each inning of the five inning contest.

Haley Hevern and Brooke Hesselgesser smacked the two hits for the Crusaders, both singles.

The Crusaders will host Central Washington University on Tuesday at Halle Field in a GNAC doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m. MST.
