RICHLAND, Wash. - The Northwest Nazarene softball team fell 11-1 to Sonoma State and 6-3 to Western Washington on Saturday afternoon in their final two games of the Clarion Hotel Central Washington Invitational, hosted at the Columbia Playfields in Richland, Washington.
Kate Free led the Crusaders, going three-for-seven on the day, as the Crusaders fell to 0-13 on the season with the pair of losses.
Rachel Bare (0-7) and
Dana Shipley (0-5) were each tagged with pitching losses in the circle with Kayla Leford (2-0) earning the win for Sonoma State (7-8) and Emily Hardin (2-1) getting the win for Western Washington.
NNU led early in both games on Saturday, scoring one run in the first against Sonoma State when Free's lead-off single eventually scored on a
Haley Hevern RBI double. NNU would also grab a 2-0 lead in the first against Western Washington (8-4) with a pair of unearned runs thanks to two WWU errors. WWU would score three in the fourth and three in the sixth, while Sonoma State answered with two in the second, two in the sixth and seven in the seventh.
The Crusaders will open GNAC play next weekend when they travel to Saint Martin's University on Thursday and Western Oregon University on Friday.
