FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Nichole Schutte scored 19 points and Jennifer Williams grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds as the Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball team defeated the University of Alaska Fairbanks 73-68 on Thursday night in Alaska.
Behind Williams rebounding effort, the Crusaders (7-3 GNAC, 14-5) controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Nanooks 40-33 and out-scored UAF 22-8 at the free throw line. NNU finished 22-for-36 from the line, while the hosts were just eight-of-16.
Alaska Fairbanks (2-8 GNAC, 9-9) was led by Kari Reabold who scored a game-high 22 points, with Joscelyn Shumate adding 17. Reabold also led UAF in rebounding with six.
NNU shot 46-percent (23-50) from the floor and 35.7-percent (5-14) from the three point line, with Schutte leading the charge with a 7-for-9 shooting night in the paint.
Crusader point guard Mallory Whipple scored 10 points, had five assists and four steals in 35 minutes of action.
NNU will travel to Anchorage and face the 8th-ranked Seawolves of UAA on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
