NAMPA – The Crusaders out-scored the Vikings 43-23 in the second half as the Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball team defeated Western Washington University 70-52 on Thursday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa.
Nichole Schutte recorded her second-straight double-double with a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead four Crusaders into double-figures. Lindsay Brady scored 13, Janee Olds had 11 and Jennifer Williams added 10. In addition to her points, Williams had eight rebounds and was a perfect eight-for-eight from the free throw line.
The Crusaders, who trailed 27-29 at the half, were held to just 28.1-percent (9-32) shooting in the opening period and were out-rebounded by the Vikings 22-16. However, the Crusaders bounced back, going 13-for-26 in the second half and held the Vikings to 23 second period points on 7-of-29 shooting.
The Vikings (4-8 GNAC, 7-17) were led by a trio of players with 11 points in Gabby Wade, Kristin Schramm and Sarah Schramm. Wade also added nine rebounds and five steals. WWU out-rebounded NNU 41-39, but committed 26 turnovers and went just 10-for-18 at the free throw line.
NNU (8-4 GNAC, 15-6) went 21-of-25 from the free throw line and finished the game at 37.9-percent (22-58) from the floor.
The Crusaders will host Central Washington on Saturday night in a GNAC counter at 7 p.m. at the Johnson Sports Center.
