NAMPA- Dominating post performances from both Jennifer Williams and Kristin Hein led the way for the Northwest Nazarene University women's basketball team as they defeated Humboldt State University 95-87 in the finale of the NNU Thanksgiving Classic at the Johnson's Sports Center in Nampa.
Both Hein and Williams posted double-doubles for the Crusaders (3-1). Williams led the way with a game-high 24 points to go with her 11 rebounds and Hein followed with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Also in double digits for the Crusaders were Janee Olds with 16 and Nikki Schutte with 12.
"It's really great when you can have four girls score in double digits. It takes a lot of pressure off of our defense," commented assistant coach Ryan McCarthy after the team's win.
NNU's defense played a key role, forcing 18 turnovers that created 30 points. "We made the game plan that as soon as we got the rebound the wings would spread out and run the floor. That's Crusader basketball, and that's exactly what they did," McCarthy added.
Pacing the visiting Lumberjacks (2-2) was Jennifer Enos, who shared game-high honors with Williams, with 24 points. Following Enos' performance was Trisha Alaba with 18 points and Katie Franci with 13. Franci also had a game-high 12 boards to give her Humbolt's only double-double.
Both Williams and Hein were named to the all-tournament team, joining Leada Berkey of Western Oregon, Shristy Kumar of CSU Stanislaus and Jennifer Enos of Humboldt State.
