NNU falls 2-1 at Corban College

Hannah Mohs

Salem, Ore. - Falling behind 2-0 early in the first half, the Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team couldn't climb all the way back in a 2-1 loss to Corban College on Saturday afternoon at the Corban College Classic in Salem.

"We dug ourselves a hole too deep," commented NNU head coach Jamie Lindvall. "We played better in the second half, but ultimately we gave up too much in the first half."

A first half that included the opening goal by Corban's Megan Waunch just 22 seconds into play. "We were flat at the beginning and they put two great passes together and scored," Lindvall added. Corban would strike for the game winner just 10 minutes and 22 seconds later when Charissa Bernard scored to give Corban a 2-0 lead.

The Crusaders (1-1) cut the lead to one in the 54th minute when Hannah Mohs beat the Corban goalkeeper Kim Mendenhall one-on-one after receiving assists from Shanie Benner and Katy McNutt. Mohs sent her shot into the lower left corner to score the first goal of her collegiate career.

"Hopefully we can find the level of play that we are capable of and come out strong on Monday," Lindvall said, referring to the Crusaders final game of the season opening road trip against Warner Pacific University Monday at 3:30 p.m. in Portland.
