Andrew Groves signs with NNU Baseball

NAMPA, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene University head baseball coach Tim Onofrei is proud to announce that Andrew Groves has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend NNU and play for the Crusaders next year.

Groves (RHP, 6-0, 160, Mukilteo, WA) is a right-handed pitcher from reigning NWAACC champion Bellevue Community College and is a staple of one of the best pitching staffs in the NWAACC.  He appeared in 10 games as a freshman, making one start with a 4-1 record, and posted a 2.23 ERA in over 30 innings of work.  Dating back to his sophomore year at Kamiak High School, Andrew has compiled 24 wins with only 5 losses.

Coach Onofrei comments about Andrew, “With the arms that we have graduating we need to bolster our staff and Andrew does that.  He is a polished mid-80's arm with four pitches he can throw for a strike.  We are glad that we can add a proven winner from a quality program in Bellevue Community College.”

In addition to his junior college accomplishments, Andrew was a first-team all-Wesco selection in both 2009 and 2010 while at Kamiak High.  He was named all-state as a second baseman and a pitcher, named to the Seattle Times all-area team, and was honored as a Seattle Times state Athlete of the Week.

Andrew would like to thank his Mom and Dad, Chris and Tracey Groves, for all of their support, time, and effort, John and Jody Ray for their support as well as all of the coaches who have coached him up to this point, especially coach Mark Yoshino and the rest of the Bellevue staff for the opportunity to play baseball after high school.

Andrew adds the reasons he chose NNU were the fact that they have a great baseball program, great coaches, and a great learning environment.
