Charlotte, NC – Day 2 at the Outdoor National Championships, well…… never happened. Severe weather dominated the day as thunderstorms camped out over the Irwin Belk Track Complex forcing an evacuation of the stadium. Athletes and coaches took refuge in the parking lot and any other available dry areas and waited to see if the weather would pass, which of course it didn't.
Meet officials have re-set the schedule for Saturday to accommodate the lack of prelims that should have been run today. Championship Saturday will now have timed finals to allow for multiple heats of races to be run, with the Champion and All-American top 8 decided by time. Field events will continue to consist of finals only with the schedule needing to include the field events from Friday. Weather tomorrow calls for a 40% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms with a high of 81 degrees.
NNU's Lakiesha Nilles (So. Poulsbo, Wa) is scheduled to throw the javelin tomorrow at 12:15, and Michelle Phillips (Sr. Meridian, Id) is scheduled to run finals in the 800m at 7:40pm EST.
