MONMOUTH, Or.  The Crusader Women placed 3rd and the Men placed 5th this weekend while Joy Warrington (So, Colorado Springs, Co) and Maurus Hope (So, Adrian, Or) brought home individual conference championships for the NNU Crusaders.

Warrington scored the 3rd highest point total on the women's side (23 points) as she placed 1st and won a title in the Shot put with a throw of 13.42m (44-0.5), she also placed 2nd in the discus throw with 40.48 (132-10), and 3rd in the Hammer throw with 46.96m (154-01). Hope ran to a title in the Men's 400m Hurdles with a 53.25q prelims time and winning the finals in 53.54. Hope was also the leading point scored for the Crusaders (10 points) and was 22nd individually on the Men's side.

Other outstanding performances this weekend came from:

Nampa freshman Carly Dranginis (11th overall in individual points scored) who threw personal bests in 3 events, 3rd in the Hammer throw 46.96m (154'-01”) which was a 25 foot PR, 4th in the Discus 38.90m (127'-07”), and 5th in the Shot put 12.37m (40'-07”).

Laura VonArx (Jr. Hermiston Or) bettered her National provisional Triple Jump mark up to 11.65m (38'-3”) and added a National provisional qualifying mark in the javelin throw of 42.54m (139'-07”).

Freshman Jasmyn Jewett (Mt. Home, Id) score 10.5 points for the Crusaders with a 3rd in the Triple jump 11.75m (38'-07”), a 5th in the long jump 5.36m (17'-07”) and an 8th place in the High jump.

Senior Karina Elzinga (Salmon, Id) jumped 3.50m (11'-5.75”) and placed 2nd in the Pole Vault with a clutch first attempt make at 11'3” which put her in a tie break advantage over everyone else requiring her competitors to jump higher than her to beat her. Elzinga went on to clear even another height to set her personal best in her last track meet of her college career, and only Seattle Pacific's Melissa Peaslee jumped higher to claim the conference title at 11'-9.75”.

Local favorites Jaclyn Puga (Jr.) and Lindsay Brady (Sr.) also placed 2nd and 3rd scoring points for the Crusaders. Puga ran to a near conference title in the 3,000m steeplechase running 10:52.07 just over a second behind WWU's Courtney Olsen. Brady placed 3rd in the women's 400m running 58.56q as a prelims qualifier and 57.84 in the finals to claim 3rd place.

Freshman Barak Watson (Nampa, Id) scored 7 points over the weekend running against some tough competition. Watson placed 4th in the Men's 3,000m steeplechase (9:13.42), placed 7th in the 1500m (3:58.02) and just out of the points (9th)in the 5,000m run (15:00.42).

The Steeplechase events were especially productive for the Crusaders scoring 3 places on each side. On the women's side Puga placed 2nd and was joined in the points by Jordan Powell (Fr. Nampa Id) 4th place, and Megan Swenson (Fr.). In the Men's 3,000 steeple Watson was joined in the points by Sophomores Luke Hetrick 7th and Neil Easter 8th.
