BOISE – ID The quote of the week lived up to its billing, “There is no bad weather, just soft people – Bill Bowerman”. The weather calmed some for Saturday at the All-Idaho Collegiate meet at Bronco Stadium after a rowdy Friday night that saw sideways snow and a long jump cancellation because the water was coming so fast, the board could not be cleared and was underwater. The snow still came on day 2, but so did some good performances by the Crusaders despite the weather.
Highlighting day 2 for the NNU Crusaders was Jaclyn Puga (Nampa, ID) placing 2nd in the women's 3000m Steeplechase in a school record 11:28.8h. In the same race teammate Jordan Powell (Nampa, ID)
ran faster than the existing school record of 11:47.0 by running 11:46.8h and placing 3rd behind her teammate. Both women's relays ran well despite the cold; the women's 4x100m (Christa Brediger, Christabel Leonce, Latoya Tidwell and Melissa Grammer) placed 2nd behind Boise State running 49.22 and the 4x400m (Elisa Decker, Jaclyn Puga, Christine Harwood and Shanna Rippy) placed 2nd behind Boise State.
Also noteworthy on the women's side, the Women triple jumpers (Laura Von Arx, Molly Reid, Jasmyn Jewett, Maycee Bekkedahl, and Annie Larlee) showed up in force by sweeping 2nd through 6th place and scoring 25 points in one event for the Crusaders.
The Men's side was headlined by Barak Watson (Fr. Nampa, ID) placing second in his first 3000m steeplechase in 9:32.0h, just 6 seconds off the National Provision mark of 9:26.0. Considering the kick Barak had at the finish of the race, the snow and cold temperatures, and the fact that it was his first 3000m steeple, Coach Ben Gall smiled when asked which race was Barak's strength and said, “Well the 3,000m steeple sure looks like it is his race.” Also just off the National provisional in his first time running the 400m Hurdles was Maurus Hope (Adrian , Or) winning Friday night in a snowstorm (55:11). Maurus was just slightly more than a second off the National qualifier and Coach
Dustin Ainsworth had a grin of the cat who just ate the canary after splitting Hope at 48.6 on the 4x400m relay. “That guy is going to ruin a few peoples day when they see his name on the 400m Hurdles Conference list come Monday” said Coach Ainsworth.
Also on the Men's side was Jordan Fenters (Jr. Kalamath Falls, OR) who threw a personal best 47.88m (157-01) in the Hammer throw taking 3rd. Both Men's relays ran well, the 4x100m (Derek Sepe, Cameron Colby, Dan Hill and Maurus Hope) ran to a second place finish behind Boise State in 42.95 (NNU 2nd place all time top 10) and the Men's 4x400m (Maurus Hope, Dan Hill, Mark Hanson and Derek Sepe) ran to a second place finish Behind Boise State in 3:21.98
