NAMPA, ID – Joy Warrington (So, Colorado Springs, Co) almost hit the trifecta this weekend at the NNU Invitational. Joy placed 1st in the Shotput and Discus, and placed 2nd in the Hammer throw.
Although Joy didn't sweep all her events, she did put her stamp on the women's shot put with a new school record and National provisional qualifier of 13.80m (45' 3.5”). Her put bettered her throw of 13.18 last week and places her 15th on the National list with only two meets remaining in the season.
Also making their mark this weekend were;
Christabel Leonce (Fr. Castries St. Lucia, West Indies) won the women's 100m in 12.58 just ahead of teammate Melissa Grammer (Fr. Valdez, Ak) in 12.60). Her time in the 100m puts her into the top 8 in the GNAC and her 2nd place 26.26 200m qualifies her for the GNAC Championships as well.
Jill Bennett (So. Grants Pass, Or) won the women's High jump 1.55m (5'-1”) and placed 2nd with a qualifying 15.92 100m Hurdles race.
MJ Usabel (Sr. Marsing, ID) and Karina Elzinga (Sr. Salmon, ID) went 1-2 in the women's Pole vault jumping 3.35m (11-0) and continue to knock on the door of the NNU School record and National provisional qualifier.
Derek Sepe (So. Everett, Wa) took 1st in the men's 100m at 11.21, just ahead of NNU's Cameron Colby (Fr. Tualitin, Or) 11.29, and then Sepe took 2nd in the Men's 200m 23.18, edging teammate Dan Hill (Jr. Castleford, Id) who ran 23.31.
Mark Hanson (Sr. Nampa, Id) placed 2nd in the 400m Hurdles with a current GNAC 3rd in 54.86.
Other notable performances today were Laura VonArx (Jr. Hermiston, Or) 1st TJ 11.43m (37'-6”) and 2nd in the Javelin 37.64 (123'-6”), The women's 4x100m (Brediger, Leonce, Brady, Grammer) bettered their seasons best time with a 49.41, Molly Reid (So. Jerome, Id) won the women's Long Jump at 5.33m (17'-6”) over teammate Jasmyn Jewett (Fr. Mt. Home, Id) 5.17m (16'11.5”) who also took 2nd in the TJ with a leap of 11.32m (37'-1.75”). Jesse Baggenstos (Fr. Renton, Wa) placed 2nd in the men's 10,000m running 34:32.0h, and Barak Watson, (Fr. Nampa, Id) won the men's 3,000m Steeple in 9:38.31 which is currently 7th in the GNAC.
The NNU Crusaders will compete next Friday and Saturday, April 30th & May 1st at Boise State's Border clash that will pit Idaho athletes against Utah athletes. Fridays events include Men's Javelin, Women's Hammer and Men's Hammer throw beginning at 2:30. Saturdays field events begin at 10:00am and running events at 12:00. The Crusaders will then host the GNAC Multi event Championships at home on Monday and Tuesday May 3-4th and then Travel to Monmouth, Oregon for the GNAC Championships May 14-15.
