LA GRANDE- OR The NNU Crusaders competed at the Eastern Oregon Mountaineer Open over the weekend, and as the temperature rise….......….. so do the performances. Teams in attendance were Northwest Nazarene, Eastern Oregon, Treasure Valley CC, and a handful of Boise State Broncos.
Top performers of the meet this Saturday were:
Laura Von Arx (Jr. Hermiston, Or) won the Triple jump with a National provisional mark of 11.62m (38'-1.5”). Laura made the National meet last year with a jump of 11.87m, and competed in San Angelo Texas, and is looking to better that mark for a chance to go to Charlotte, NC. He mark of 11.62 places her 21st on the national list, and she will need to add about 6 inches to her mark to ensure a place in the National meet.
Karina Elzinga (Sr, Salmon ID) jumped 3.43m (11'3”) in the women's pole vault, and currently sits alone in 2nd place in the GNAC Conference.
Joy Warrington (So, Colorado Springs, Co) won the women's Shot put with a throw of 13.18m (43'-3”) which is just off the National provisional mark of 13.25m. She also won the women's Discus with a toss of 40.11m (131'-7.5”).
Derek Sepe (So. Everett, Wa) won the men's 100m in 11.18, which provisionally qualifies him for the GNAC Championships, and is just off the auto qualifier of 11.11. NNU's Cameron Colby (Fr, ) placed 2nd in 11.26.
Other notable performances were; Amy Ciaccio (Jr. Boise, ID ) 1st 400m Hurdles 1:08.28, Latoya Tidwell (Jr. Tacoma, Wa) won the 200m in 26.50 and winning the 100m in 12.77, followed by Teammate Christabel Leonce (Fr. Castries St. Lucia, West Indies) in 12.94, Erika McCarthy (So. Baker City) won the women's Hammer with a toss of 47.63 (156'-03”), Molly Reid (So. Jerome, ID) winning the Long Jump in 5.08m (16'-8”), The men's 4x100m (Derek Sepe, Cameron Colby, Dan Hill and Maurus Hope) 1st place 42.93, Barak Watson (Fr. Nampa, ID) placed 1st in the men's 5,000m with a time of 15:22.57 and 3rd in the 1500m in 4:02.32, Jordan Fenters (Jr. Kalamath Falls, Or) 2nd In the Shot put 13.92m (45'-08”) and 3rd in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 47.82m (156'-11”), The Women's 4x 100m (Christa Brediger, Latoya Tidwell, Molly Reid, and Melissa Grammer) 1st in 49.53, Jill Bennett (So, Grants Pass, Or) 1st in the 100mHurdles in 16.22, edging teammate Laura Pridgen (Fr. Nampa, Id) who ran 16.23.
The Crusaders will compete at home next week, Saturday April 24th for the NNU Invitational, and then the following Saturday May 1st at Boise State for a border duel between the Idaho and Utah colleges.
