NAMPA, ID – Day 3 of the NNU Combined and Open events wrapped up Saturday and saw the Crusader men and women win a combined 21 events. Head coach
John Spatz said “In a day where we saw the winds consistently in the 20-30 mph range, our team showed a lot of poise and competed really well. Those lessons you learn competing during the season always seem to matter and pay off in the end.”
Event champions for the Crusader women on Saturday include Melissa Grammer (Fr. Valdez, AK) 100m (12.65), Latoya Tidwell (Jr. Tacoma, WA) 200m (27.00), Shanna Rippy (Fr. Boise ID) 400m (1:05.9), Michelle Phillips (SR. Meridian, ID) 1500m (4:54.87), 4x100m relay (Brediger, Reid, Tidwell, Grammer) (50.98), Amy Ciaccio (Jr. Boise, ID) 400m Hurdles (1:11.33), Karina Elzinga (Sr. Salmon, ID) Pole Vault 3.05m (10'), Jasmyn Jewett (Fr, Mt. Home, ID) Long Jump (5.10m) (16'-8.75”), Molly Reid (So. Jerome, ID) Triple Jump (10.90m) (35'-9.25”) Joy Warrington (So. Colorado Springs, Co) Shot Put (12.72m) (41'8.75”) and Hammer Throw (44.12m) (144-9), and Erika McCarthy (So. Baker City, OR) Discus (38.72) (127-0).
Event champions for the Crusader men on Saturday include Cameron Colby (Fr. Tualitin, OR) 100m (11.25), Maurus Hope (So. Adrian, OR) 200m (22.63), 4x100m relay (Sepe, Colby, Hill, Hope) (44.05), 4x 400m relay (Sepe, Hope, Hill, Hanson) (3:30.11), and Mark Hanson (Sr. Nampa, ID) 400m Hurdles (58.67).
Friday night saw Lakiesha Nilles (So. Poulsbo Wa), win the women's javelin with a National Provisional and School record throw of 142-0 which places her and early 2nd on the current National list and puts her within reach of the automatic qualifier of 147-0. With substantial tail winds all day that pushed the multi event javelins down to earth, the wind quieted to more reasonable conditions and saw Nilles take 1st, and Crusader Eric Zwiefelhofer (Sr. Hermiston, OR.) win the men's javelin with a toss of 55.28m (181-4).
The Crusaders are off for the week as the school is on Spring Break, competition resumes at the All-Idaho Collegiate Cup at Boise State April 2-3rd.
