NAMPA, ID – Day 2 of the NNU Combined and open events ended with Crusaders sweeping the multi events and a javelin throw that might land Lakiesha Nilles in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Nilles (So. Poulsbo Wa), won the women's javelin with a National Provisional throw of 142-0 which places her and early 2nd on the current National list and puts her within reach of the automatic qualifier of 147-0. With substantial tail winds all day that pushed the multi event javelins down to earth, the wind quieted to more reasonable conditions and saw Nilles take 1st, and Crusader Eric Zwiefelhofer (Sr. Hermiston, OR.) win the men's javelin with a toss of 55.28m (181-4).
In the Multi events, Jill Bennett (So. Grants Pass, Or.) won the Women's Heptathlon with a score of 3596 and Ben Heidegger (So. Medford, OR) won the Men's Decathlon with a score of 5043. Bennett and Heidegger met the provisional qualifier for the GNAC conference and were joined by Laura VonArx (Jr. Hermiston, OR). Highlights of the Heptathlon were VonArx winning the long jump 5.31m (17-4) and the javelin 31.02 (101-9) in heavy wind and Bennett winning the 800m (2:39.75). In the Decathlon, Tim Steiglitz (Fr. Medford, OR) opened up day 2 with a 1st in the 110 High Hurdles (15.87). Heidegger won the discus (23.05m) and took 2nd in the Javelin and the 1500m (4:51.10) to push his day 2 cushion of 250 points to a winning margin of over 500 points.
Events continue Saturday morning at 10:30am on the NNU Track with field events and running events scheduled for 12:00.
